Established in 2003 Pure Comfort is a family owned and run business. Stephen and Edna Millard have been in the bedding industry for over 25 years. They were the leading franchisees for many years in one of the largest franchised bedding groups.
"We have slept on every type of mattress and waterbed over the years in a quest to find the perfect spine-friendly mattress. Our belief was that you need a mattress that contours the body and will fill up the arch in your back. This is the one part of the body that is never supported in a normal mattress and causes a lot of back pain and soreness. Pocket spring beds and water beds came close, but didn’t quite do it.
We were in the US in 2002 and discovered Tempur. We soon realized this was as close to perfection as any mattress was ever going to get because the billions of little rubber balls in Tempur act like independent springs and give virtually equal pressure all over the body. Our son-in-law was trying to find a business in Byron Bay. So when we returned from the US, we helped him start Pure Sleep, selling nothing but Tempur mattresses, pillows and accessories. A year later I visited the Tempur factory in Virginia, USA. They told me that Tempur is usually sold in 'backcare' stores in the States. They introduced me to Interactive Health, the biggest manufacturer of massage chairs in the US.
We then decided to change our name to Pure Comfort and stock the highest quality backcare products we could find. We have now become one of Australia's stores specializing in these type of products."
